Since our founding in 1876, our clients are at the center of everything we do. Our attorneys take the time to develop a comprehensive understanding of our clients’ current business models and long-term objectives so we can formulate strategies that generate success today and into the future. Roetzel's entrepreneurial philosophy encourages our attorneys to think like our clients — with business minds, ready to embrace new challenges and implement innovative approaches. 

We take great pride in working for our clients, both big and small — from Fortune 500 companies and family-run businesses to nonprofit organizations and governmental entities. To meet their ever-changing needs, our legal services and office locations have expanded over time. As a full-service law firm, our 160+ attorneys collaborate seamlessly across disciplines throughout our 13 offices to achieve our clients’ objectives. 

As Roetzel has evolved, we have remained committed to cultivating deep relationships within our communities, the legal profession, and the industries we serve. When our first office was opened in Akron, Ohio, nearly 150 years ago, our founders couldn’t have imagined that what they started would result in a law firm of regional and national prestige.

A Note from our Chairman

As firm Chairman, my job is first and foremost to guard our Firm’s culture, while maintaining its operational efficiency so our terrific lawyers and staff can continue doing what they’re best at, striving to enhance our clients’ success, across the Midwest and coast to coast.

At Roetzel, we’re a team, a family with values that are firmly grounded in our culture. We look out for our Firm, our clients, and each other. We compete with opposing counsel, not one another. We treat our people like professionals and provide them with whatever tools or resources are necessary to help them achieve their personal and professional goals. I don’t believe in heavy-handed management or lots of senseless rules. I believe that most people are trustworthy and so I treat every member of our Firm with respect and with that philosophy in mind until or unless I have a darn good reason not to. 

I think if people believe that you trust them, then they tend to be trustworthy. And those who aren’t don’t last very long around Roetzel. Because at Roetzel we do have one very important rule; you must treat your clients and each other with integrity, care, and respect. 

We trust people to set their own rules and their own hourly rates, to run their own practices in the way that fits their skills and personality and satisfies their clients. I don’t presume to know what’s best for them. My job is to run an efficient firm that stays mostly out of their way. I provide support and help reduce the impediments that could interfere with their laser-like focus on representing their clients to the best of their ability.

Roetzel employs graphic artists and a Medical Illustrator for demonstrative exhibits, charts, graphs, timelines, and PowerPoint presentations that are used in trials, arbitrations, mediations, and other client engagements. Roetzel is proud to announce it has achieved 2022-2023 Mansfield Certification. The Mansfield Rule measures whether law firms have affirmatively considered at least 30 percent women, lawyers of color, LGBTQ+ lawyers, and lawyers with disabilities for leadership and governance roles, equity partner promotions, formal client pitch opportunities, succession planning and senior lateral positions.
