Overview

John helps clients close commercial real estate deals. A seasoned real estate attorney – he has handled more than $1 billion of transactions – John focuses on purchases and sales of real estate assets, financings and the leasing and sale of commercial properties, including office buildings and shopping centers. In addition, he has led a significant number of multi-family housing deals, including the acquisition, disposition, and financing through HUD, Freddie Mac, and Fannie Mae of projects across the country. John also counsels developers and owners on condominium and association law, including governance matters.

John has experience in structuring and executing 1031 “like kind” exchanges that allow owners to defer income taxes on the sale of properties when they transition from one real estate investment to another.

Clients appreciate John’s commitment to finding solutions that meet their needs, like the developer who wanted to build a hotel in northeast Ohio but was advised by the city that they would have no direct access to a right of way. John’s solution – to convert the property from a hotel into a condominium – allowed them to proceed and ultimately achieve their financial objectives for the project.
