Florida Governor Extends Mortgage Foreclosure and Eviction Relief until Oct. 1
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis issued a new executive order that extends mortgage foreclosures and eviction relief until October 1. Executive Order 20-211 does not make any further changes, but only extends the same language that was already in place through this past month.

Florida Governor Extends, With Conditions, State’s Moratorium on Mortgage Foreclosures and Evictions Relief
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis issued Executive Order 20-180 on Wednesday to extend the state’s moratorium on mortgage foreclosures and evictions through September 1, 2020, with limited conditions. Executive Order 20-94 was first signed on April 2, 2020, when the Governor suspended mortgage foreclosure actions for 45 days, and suspended evictions for non-payment of rent for the same length of time. 

Governor Extends Florida State of Emergency for 60 Days
Governor Ron DeSantis issued Executive Order 20-166 today, which extends the state of emergency in Florida for another 60 days. DeSantis initially issued EO 20-52 on March 9 for the entire state of Florida due to the coronavirus. The state of emergency was then extended for 60 days in mid-May. This extension is critical to condominium and homeowner’s associations which have enacted policies to discourage the spread of novel coronavirus through the use of their statutory emergency powers.

Governor Extends Florida State of Emergency
Governor DeSantis issued EO 20-114, which extends the state of emergency in Florida initially established by EO 20-52 and set to expire today, May 8, 2020.

Florida Governor Issues Executive Order Banning Short-Term Rentals
On March 27, 2020, Governor DeSantis issued Executive Order Number 20-87, banning short-term rentals for the next two weeks. Finding that Florida is experiencing an increase in individuals fleeing to Florida from out-of-state locations where “shelter-in-place” orders are being implemented and/or community spread exists, and the finding that vacation rentals and third-party platforms advertising vacation rentals in Florida present attractive lodging destinations for individuals coming into Florida.

CDC’s new advisory on gatherings recommends that for the next 8 weeks, organizations cancel or postpone in-person events that consist of 50 people or more throughout the United States. For member meetings, Boards may consider postponing, canceling or conducting those meetings by conference call.
