Roetzel Expands Transportation & Logistics Team with Addition of Columbus Attorneys Greg Melick and Alex Karcher

Roetzel & Andress is pleased to announce that attorneys Gregory Melick and Alexander Karcher have joined the firm’s Transportation & Logistics Group in Columbus.

“We could not be more enthusiastic about the arrival of Greg and Alex and what it means for the continued growth of the Roetzel’s transportation capabilities,” said Bob Blackman, Chairman of the firm.

“Roetzel is a true one-stop shop for complex regulatory, transactional, litigation and employment matters, especially in the transportation and logistics industry,” said Chris Cotter, Roetzel’s Transportation & Logistics Group manager. “With Greg and Alex on board, we further solidify our position in the market and are uniquely positioned to guide clients on the opportunities and obstacles impacting their business.”

Melick, an experienced litigator with over 30 years of experience, represents clients in a variety of complex commercial litigation matters, contract disputes, employment matters, transportation claims (including Carmack Amendment litigation), intellectual property and tort litigation. He has also co-counseled several major class action cases, including franchise and securities litigation matters.

Melick joins Roetzel after over a decade of service at Luper Neidenthal & Logan (LNL), where he was Chair of the firm’s Litigation and Employment Law Departments, supervised the Transportation and Logistics Department, and was the senior member of the firm’s Board of Directors. He earned his J.D. from Temple University Beasley School of Law, and his B.A., cum laude, from the University of Dayton.

Karcher joined Melick and LNL in 2019 to learn from transportation icon, John L. Alden, who developed a Transportation and Logistics practice over his 45-year career. Having assumed responsibility for Alden’s practice, Karcher now joins Roetzel with Alden’s long-time staff, including Erin Henson and Lea Keiffer. Karcher has continued to expand the legal capabilities and geographical reach of his transportation practice and looks forward to the group’s growth at Roetzel.

Today, Karcher focuses his practice exclusively on the modern supply chain, assisting transportation and logistics clients in an array of matters, including regulatory and compliance, Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (and state equivalent) audit representation, rolling stock sales tax disputes, safety consulting, contract review and drafting – such as broker-carrier, shipper-carrier, independent contractor/owner-operator, and warehousing agreements – and obtainment of state and federal motor carrier and brokerage authorities. In addition, a large portion of his practice involves transactional matters, including due diligence work specific to transactions involving significant transportation components, along with civil litigation related to the transportation industry.

Karcher earned a J.D. from The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law and a B.A., cum laude, from Carthage College.

Also joining Roetzel from Luper Neidenthal & Logan is Senior Litigation Paralegal Alison Richardson-Pickett, who has worked with Melick and Karcher for over a decade having joined them after working for another large regional firm.
