Today Roetzel partner Ronald S. Kopp assumes the role of president-elect of the Ohio State Bar Association (OSBA), having won election at the OSBA’s Annual Convention on May 1, 2015. Kopp will take office as OSBA president on July 1, 2016.
As he prepares to take the helm of the OSBA over the course of the next year, Kopp noted several of the challenges facing the legal profession in Ohio, including the underemployment of younger attorneys and a lack of access to legal services among low-income individuals.
“I look forward to working with the OSBA’s board, membership and staff in addressing these challenges and providing leadership in these, and other areas of concern,” remarked Kopp. “The OSBA is in a unique position to work through these important issues facing the legal profession, and those who most need their services, by providing guidance and leadership.”
Kopp has a long association with the OSBA, having served on the Board of Governors, the Council of Delegates, and as a member of both the Litigation Section and the Media Law Committee. He is also a past president of the Akron Bar Association and is currently serving as an ex-officio member of the Akron Bar Association’s board. Kopp is also active in the Greater Akron and Summit County communities, serving as the current chair of Leadership Akron and sitting on the boards of both the John S. Knight Memorial Journalism Fund and the Welty Family Foundation. He is a past trustee on the boards of United Disability Services, the Akron General Medical Foundation, and the Summit County Historical Society.
Kopp has spent the entirety of his legal career at Roetzel & Andress, having joined the firm as an associate in 1979. He focuses his practice almost exclusively on business and intellectual property litigation. In addition, Kopp serves as the firm’s administrative partner.
Having earned his undergraduate degree at Miami University and his juris doctor degree from the Ohio State University Moritz College of Law, Kopp has subsequently been selected for a number of honors for his work in the legal profession. He was named as one of the “Top Ten Ohio Lawyers” by Ohio Super Lawyers magazine in 2010, and has been named one of the “Top 100 Ohio Lawyers” and “Top 50 Cleveland Lawyers” by that publication every year since 2007. In addition, he has earned an AV® Preeminent™ rating from Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory and was named to "America's Most Honored Professionals (Top 1%)" by The American Registry in 2014. Consistently named among the Best Lawyers in America®, Kopp is recognized for his work in Bet the Company Litigation, Commercial Litigation, First Amendment Litigation, and Intellectual Property Litigation.
