Overview

Mr. Johnson, Board Certified in Business Bankruptcy by the American Board of Certification, focuses his practice on commercial bankruptcy, creditors’ rights, commercial finance, commercial litigation and mediation. A former law clerk to a United States Bankruptcy Judge and former President of the Central Florida Bankruptcy Law Association, Mr. Johnson represents commercial lending institutions, REITs, hedge funds, private equity groups, financial services corporations, equipment lessors, commercial landlords, real estate developers, and other creditors and businesses. He has extensive experience in all aspects of bankruptcy, commercial foreclosure and workout proceedings, and commercial litigation, which include cases involving client assets exceeding $50-billion-dollars and claims exceeding $1-billion-dollars. In addition, he handles “white collar” criminal and government relations matters. As a Florida Supreme Court Certified Circuit Mediator, Mr. Johnson is a seasoned mediator of sophisticated commercial restructuring and complex commercial litigation cases. 

Experience
  • Lead counsel for one of largest secondary mortgage lenders in the United States in the bankruptcy case of the largest independent mortgage seller/servicer failure in United States history. Protected client's $50 Billion in directly-involved assets and maximized return on client's  ~$1.78 Billion claim.
  • Lead counsel for lead commercial bank in $350MM Ponzi scheme bankruptcy case of Lou Perlman. Client was only creditor to recover any collateral prior to bankruptcy. Defended client in ~$10MM fraudulent transfer action, with litigation resulting in no monetary exposure to client.
  • Lead counsel for major nationwide provider of short-term post-acute and long-term health care in multi-million-dollar corporate embezzlement and fraud action.  Obtained final judgment in favor of client against defendants in excess of $16.8MM.
