As anticipated, the Department of Labor (DOL) formally announced its proposal to eliminate the Trump Administration’s gig worker rule that would have provided companies an easier and simpler path to classify workers as independent contractors.
Following a freeze and review period of the gig worker rule that was finalized only two weeks prior to President Biden taking office, the DOL has now called for a 30-day public comment period to collect input on its proposal to withdraw the regulation.
Although the proposal does not include an alternate regulation, a revised, less employer-friendly regulation is likely being evaluated.
