David Hirt Joins Roetzel’s Employment Services Group in Cleveland

Roetzel & Andress LPA is pleased to announce that David Hirt has joined the firm as a Shareholder in its Employment Services Group. Based in the firm’s Cleveland office, Hirt will focus his practice in education law, representing school districts throughout Ohio. 

“We are thrilled to welcome David to the firm,” said Susan Keating Anderson, Practice Group Chair of the Education Law Group.”  “He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to our group and will help us better serve our school district clients throughout the state.”

Hirt regularly advises school boards and their administrators in all areas of education law, including labor and employment issues, special education law, student enrollment and tuition issues, student discipline, and responding to public records requests. He represents the interests of boards of education at meetings with parents and school personnel, at labor arbitrations, in administrative hearings such as due process hearings and unfair labor practice hearings, and in state and federal courts. Hirt also defends boards of education against complaints filed with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the Ohio Civil Rights Commission, and the U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights. 

Additionally, Hirt offers in-service training to district personnel in special education law, student discipline, tuition and enrollment issues, and other school issues. He has served on the Portage County Bar Association’s Certified Grievance Committee, including as its Chairperson, and he is a former member of the City of Kent, Ohio, Board of Zoning Appeals.

Hirt received his J.D. from The Maurer School of Law at Indiana University Bloomington after spending a year as a visiting student at Case Western Reserve University School of Law. He also has a master’s degree in geological science from Indiana University at Bloomington, and a B.S. in geology from Kent State University.
