After previously serving as a Health Care Practice Chair and having over 25 years of legal experience, Chris represents and counsels numerous hospitals, health systems, physicians, physician practice groups, and other health care businesses on a variety of legal matters such as:

Strategic Initiatives: Medical and hospital transactions; acquisitions; joint ventures; strategic planning; integration strategies; compensation models; mergers and affiliations.

Agreements: Professional services, lease and employment agreements; third party payer contracting and negotiation; real estate acquisitions and leases; vendor contracts.

Compliance: The Stark Law, Anti-Kickback Statute, False Claims Act, Civil Monetary Penalty Law; antitrust laws; HIPAA, HITECH Act; nonprofit and tax exempt issues; compliance programs and audits.

Administration: Medical staff issues, credentialing and disciplinary actions; patient issues; quality and peer review; risk management; human resources issues; employee relationships; dispute resolution and litigation.

  • Assists physician groups, nonprofit hospitals, and physician-owned hospitals in regulatory advice and guidance, strategic planning and implementation, and legal issues arising from day-to-day operations
  • Represented a regional hospital in its selection of a strategic partner and merger into large health system
  • Represents medical group practices and hospital-based physician groups in negotiation of service agreements with hospitals and other institutions
  • Assists hospitals and medical providers in the review, development, amendment, and oversight of physician compensation models
  • Represented physician groups in the sale of their practice to, and subsequent employment with, a hospital or large health system
  • Assists medical providers with creating and operating compliance programs, performing investigative audits, and responding to governmental agency subpoenas
  • Represents physician groups in negotiating agreements with national and regional health insurance plans
